Using International Cell Phones

Suppose you've been feeling a bit like James Bond lately and are just itching to run off to a foreign land where you too can have great, if slightly less dangerous, adventures. Of course, you're not actually a secret agent in real life, so you can't just hop a plane, train or boat to some distant destination without a bit more planning involved. Besides, what if somebody were to call you about something important. You might need to take business calls, or you might hear from a friend or relative with important news! Fortunately, there is a way you can feel like 007 and still be responsible in your own life.

The trick is to have continuous contact via phone. Now, I can already hear the cries of "but if I go on a cruise or go to Europe on vacation, I can't exactly take my phone with me," and fortunately for you, I have just the thing- international cell phones. Now, you don't need to go out and buy anything, you can actually get an international cell phone rental which will allow you to have all the adventures you want, while still taking those important phone calls. You'll need to have your regular phone number forwarded to the international phone, but with the right service provider, that shouldn't be a problem at all.

You will feel very much like James Bond when just before your trip you receive a package in the mail, containing your rental phone and everything you might need to go with it. You might consider the package as supplies for your mission-- after all, we're sticking to a theme here. Of course, if you're heading off to some of the more remote parts of the word where there aren't likely many people, much less cell phone service, your needs are a little different. Then, you will want to get a satellite phone rental. Satellite phones are also great for taking on cruises (or any sea trip where you'll be wanting to take calls while not in port).

Now, in case you're not up with your phone technology- and since you're not actually James Bond, we won't expect you to be- there is really one key difference between a cell phone and a satellite phone, and that is where the phone gets its signal from. A cell phone relies on cell towers which are, of course, land-based and found mostly in well-populated areas. Satellite phones, on the other hand, have their signals relayed from satellites that are orbiting the earth, meaning that you can get a signal anywhere on the globe, so long as there is a clean shot between you and the sky. Obviously there are limitations; neither is going to work underground, for example.

Ok, so maybe you aren't into being an international man of mystery. That's just fine. There are still international and satellite phone rental plans that will suit your needs quite well. Be sure to read the fine print, and know in advance what you're looking for. Many opt for pre-paid or flat rate plans, just so there aren't any unpleasant surprises along the way. Whatever you choose, have fun, be safe and enjoy your travels. You never know what you'll discover out there in the world, or even just in the next town over.
