Minor Strokes Progress to Rapid Alzheimers Progression

by Ask Angie In the last few decades, it has become evident that some patients who suffer silent and minor strokes develop a type of dementia which is very similar to Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The dementia in these groups of patients is known as vascular dementia. These small strokes are very inconsequential that the person might not notice any symptoms, or the symptoms may be only temporary. Over time, it will become obvious that that the person has become forgetful and also losing his cognitive ability. Further, it has become more evident that Alzheimer’s patients who develop small strokes also go on to have a more rapid progression of their symptoms. In some cases, only one small stroke is sufficient to promote the progression of the dementia For the brain to function properly, a good supply of blood is needed. The blood is delivered through a network of blood vessels named the vascular system. If the vascular system within the brain becomes damaged and blood cannot reach the brain cells they will eventually die. This will sometimes lead to a progression of dementia.
